Ingredients:
  • Chopped banana pieces – ¼ cup
  • Jowar flour – 1 cup
  • Jaggery powder – 1 teaspoon

Method

Heat ghee in a pan. Roast jowar flour for 2 minutes. Add ¼ cup of water and jaggery powder and stir well till the mixture cooks and thickens. Turn off the flame after a minute. Add chopped banana pieces and mix gently.

Jowar Khichdi

Ingredients:
  • Jowar rawa – 1 cup (Soaked for 6 hours)
  • Moong dal – ½ cup (soaked for 4 hours)
  • Ghee – 4 teaspoons
  • Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon stick – 1
  • Cloves – 2 – 3
  • Bay leaf – 1
  • Chopped green chillies – 1 teaspoon
  • Chopped ginger – 1 teaspoon
  • Green peas – 1 cup
  • Chopped carrots – 1 cup
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Salt – Proportionately
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Method

Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf. Stir in green chillies, ginger, curry leaves. Add carrots and green peas and allow them to cook. Later, add 4 cups of water and mix moong dal that is soaked for 4 hours. Add salt and mix well. Add jowar rawa that is soaked for 6 hours and cook the mixture for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a dollop of ghee and serve khichdi hot.

Jowar Halwa

Ingredients:
  • Jowar rawa – 1 cup
  • Milk – ½ litre
  • Jaggery – 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Ghee – 3 tablespoons
  • Kova
  • Dry fruit
  • Cashew nuts – 6
Method

Heat ghee in a pan. Lightly fry cashew nuts and kova. Also add sugar, milk and cardamom powder and allow it to simmer. Heat another pan with ghee in it. Roast jowar rawa. Add roasted rawa to the milk mixture and cook till it attains a thick consistency. Once cooked, garnish the jowar halwa with dry fruit.

Jowar Porridge

Ingredients:
  • Jowar flour – ½ cup
  • Few crushed green chillies and ginger
  • Butter milk – 1 cup
  • Salt – proportionately
  • Ghee – 3 tablespoons
  • Water – 2 cups
Method

Boil 2 cups of water. Add some water to jowar flour and mix it well to a liquid consistency. Pour this mixture in boiling water and stir well adding some salt. Turn off the flame. Cover the mixture and allow it to rest overnight. The next morning, add required amount of buttermilk to it along with crushed green chillies and ginger.

Jowar Laddoos

Ingredients:
  • Jowar flour – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 4 tablespoons
  • Sugar or organic jaggery powder – ½ cup
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Coconut powder – 2 tablespoons
  • Cardamom powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Dry fruit – 1 tablespoon
Method

Heat ghee in a pan and roast dry fruit lightly and set aside. In the same pan, roast jowar flour and coconut powder and set aside. Take the mixture in a large bowl, add melted ghee and jaggery powder, dry fruit, cardamom powder and mix well. Add milk to the mixture and mix.

Grease your palm with ghee and take small portions out of the mixture and shape them into laddoos.
